A
popular student leader, he was the president of VR College students
union in 1985 and 1986. As a student leader, he had gone on a
14-day-long fast to seek redressal of students’ grievances. He was also a
member of SV University senate member in 1986 and 1987. He was the
general secretary of the Youth Congress in 1987 and 1988 and then PCC
member. He had actively taken part in the Anti-Alamatti agitation and
anti-liquor agitation. He was jailed for 22 days for taking part in the
anti-power tariff agitation.
