A native of Renigunta in Chittoor, Karunakar Reddy had entered politics
in 1990 under the inspiration of YS Raja Reddy and YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
A graduate and an active leader of Radical movements, Reddy played a
stellar role in establishing Radical Students Union in Tirupati and was
even jailed for this. He was PCC secretary in 1993 and had
unsuccessfully contested for the post of Tirupati Municipal chairperson
in 2002. In 2004, he became the chairperson of Tirupati Urban
Development Authority (TUDA) and an ex-officio member of the
TirumalaTirupatiDevasthanam (TTD). From 2006 to 2008, he was the
chairperson the TTD trust Board. As PCC general secretary, he had
organized a hugely successful padayatra for Galeru-Nagari project. In
2009, he had unsuccessfully contested against Chiranjeevi from Tirupati.
