native of Sivakodu in Razolemandal, Vijayalakshmi married
JakkampudiRammohanaRao, a firebrand student leader then. It was a
love-cum-arranged marriage. Since then, she was actively associated with
each political battle that RammohanaRao fought. A three-time MLA,
RammohanRao was the sole Congress MLA from East Godavari district in
1999 and Vijayalakshmi had played a stellar role in ensuring his
victory. A lawyer by profession, he had worked as assistant public
prosecutor too. As a party activist, she had worked as PCC general
secretary and AICC member. In 2009, she had unsuccessfully contested
from Rajahmundry assembly constituency. The couple then stood
rock-solidly behind YS Jagan and eventually joined the YSR CP. She is
currently a member of the party central politburo.
